My New Favorite Animal

Ate received this (and a few more) booklet as a gift.  This morning, we got it (our first time to read it) so we can learn more Animals!

As they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover".  This may look like your standard children's book about Animals, you would think that it is just the same as the other books that you're used to.  Well, this one is pretty special.  IT IS because . . . this is the first book I've ever seen with an

in it, hahaha!!!

Alpaca is an animal I have seen in a zoo but it's not an animal name that I would remember offhand!

(According to Wikipedia, an Alpaca is a domesticated species of South American camelid.  It resembles a small llama in appearance.  If you want to know more about Alpacas , please click on this link.)

This book doesn't also just teach you about Birds, it shows you the different types of birds.

Guess it's time to level up Ate's knowledge bank on Animals!

But I think we can do "Alpaca" some other day, haha!

Goodnight everyone =)

Remembering Dr. Seuss

I grew up reading Dr. Seuss books.  I remember reading "Green Eggs and Ham", "Cat in the Hat" and my most favorite is . . .

Trivia: This is Dr. Seuss first book, published in 1937 . .  .
after being rejected 27 times!

We have a good number of  Dr. Seuss books or rather we HAD!  I thought of looking for them today so I can read them to Ate and for me to enjoy the books again.  Sad to say, my mom gave them away. (Waaaahhhh!  Thinking about those books still breaks my heart while I write this post) . . . But it's okay, let's share our love for Dr. Seuss!

Back then I just remember the funny drawings and the different way the stories were written (because they don't begin with "Once upon a time", haha!) that they sounded more of a riddle than a story.  Now that I'm older, I appreciate the uniqueness of Dr. Seuss and the valuable lessons from his whimsical books.

In memory of our Dr Seuss and his books (and the books we've lost, haha!), here are some inspiring quotes:

Bookshelf: "Your Emergency Survival Handbook"

My dad asked me to get this book for him (it was being discussed in a radio/tv show he was watching).

I can't really remember when was the last time my dad read a book (or if he really does?! Haha!), so when he asked me to get this book, I made sure I put it on top of my "things-to-do" list.  And being the good daughter I am (Ahem!  Teehee), I got it the same week he asked me to.

Me: Hi Dad, got your book already! *giddy*

Dad: What book?

Me:  The Emergency Survival Handbook you saw in the tv show.

Dad: Oh okay, YOU read it and just tell me what it's all about.

*Facepalm*  Haha!  I knew this was too good to be true!

I haven't gotten the chance to read the book but I was browsing it and I saw a Chapter where it talks about the different types of disaster and what do before, during and after the said disaster.  What is also nice about this book is since it was written by a Filipino (Paloma),  there are some information and things that are Philippine-specific.

I know that disaster strikes unexpectedly and we would probably won't be able to do most of what is written in the book.  But I think that reading the book would at least create an awareness and a certain preparedness in us in times of emergency.

Note to self: Please start reading!
